Chisasibi Iiyiyuu Snowshoes – Men’s 57 Inches
Handcrafted in Chisasibi, Eeyou Istchee, these 57-inch Iiyiyuu snowshoes are built using traditional Cree knowledge and materials suited for northern winter travel. Designed for stability and flotation in deep snow, their elongated shape reflects generations of land-based expertise.
These snowshoes are carefully framed, bent, and laced by hand by Christopher Cox and Lee Ann Angatookaluk of Chisasibi. Christopher learned snowshoe making from his grandfather, Abraham, who at 82 years old continues to make snowshoes today. This passing of knowledge from grandfather to grandson lives on in every pair.
The main shafts are crafted from local tamarack, selected and harvested by Christopher. Tamarak snowshoes are valued for their strength and flexibility. The cross pieces are made of white birch, selected for durability and balance. The top and bottom sections are tightly laced with synthetic sinew, while the central section is woven using 3/8" paracord, providing resilience and dependable support in northern conditions.
Strong, lightweight, and functional, these snowshoes are made for real winter travel — whether on the land, in the bush, or for cultural use.
No fixation included. These can be purchased separately on our website.
